Shelby.tv Wins NY Tech Start-Up Classic

On Wednesday, June 22 three great NY Tech Meetup alums took the stage at the NY Tech Start-Up Classic (part of the Consumer Electronics Association’s Digital Downtown event) to compete for the grand prize: a free booth at CES 2012.

Judges Nate Westheimer (Executive Director of NYTM), Michael Galpert (founder of Aviary.com), Thatcher Bell (Principal at DFJ Gotham and NYTM board member), and Natali Morris (CEA Line Shows Conference Chair) had a tough call on their hands as they watched great demos and then deliberated between the three companies:

Ex.fm (www.ex.fm) An extension for Chrome that makes it incredibly easy to discover new music while browsing, organize that music into a library and share it with all your friends.

Runens (www.runens.com)- A NYC based start-up with the mission to make running social and starts with a running app for the iPhone.

Shelby.tv (www.shelby.tv) – Described as the most amazing way to discover and enjoy web video.

In the end it was Shelby.tv and its presenters, Reece Pacheo and Dan Spinosa, who took home the grand prize and will be heading to CES in 2012. Congrats guys!

Congrats to Ex.fm and Runens as well – you are all great representatives of the NY tech community.

And thanks to CEA for making this event possible!
